Making the most of it

Out at the coast over the weekend, the surf was still refreshing, but not too cold. There we were, not knowing if this would be the last swim or not, making the most of the golden weather.

Meanwhile, nature is busy making seeds, berries and pushing out the last flowers of the season.
I too am gathering up goodness, ready for the shift into a darker, cooler time.

    I have so enjoyed catching up with the onset of autumn in New Zealand with all the unusual plants that you have whilst we are opening up into spring. Your thoughts and action on the tragedies in Christchurch and now Japan so well encapsulate how I have been feeling but could not put so eloquently. I love the beach picture and the trio in the centre. Beautiful.

    ‘Making the most of it’ was certainly the theme for Wednesday here in Central Otago too. We lay in the sun for a while (perhaps the last salute to the summer past), and even as the sun drenched and warmed us, our large old walnut tree gave us a background soundscape as the ripening nuts fell regularly, swishing through the tree foliage and thumping onto the ground or clunking onto the tin roof of our garden shed – nature’s percussion. It was beautiful, and set my mind to planning all manner of walnut recipes! Ruth P
