In memoriam: Christchurch

by | Feb 21, 2012 | Uncategorized | 10 comments

For all those affected by the devastating Canterbury earthquake of February 22, 2011. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Here is the quote I posted last year, when I made a symbol on the beach after the earthquake:

By not wanting, there is calm
And the world will straighten itself.
When there is silence,
one finds the anchor of the universe within oneself.
 (Tao Te Ching, 37th verse)

Such of horrible thing for such a beautiful city. And I’m sure the rebuilding is being hindered by all the after shocks and quakes that have happened since. You wonder how the residents are coping.

Thanks Joan and Hotly Spiced. It has indeed been a terrible time for those residents with the ongoing shocks. I know some of them, and how tested they are, all the time.

Such a lovely memorial to Christchurch, Juliet. We get busy in our everyday lives, forgetting all those still effected by such disasters. Thank you.

Hi Juliet .. what a beautiful thing to do last year .. and those words enwrap us don’t they ..

185 people died – that’s a lot .. we’ve had remembrances here for them .. sadly one of our major news journalists and a French cameraman have been killed in Syria … she was only on the radio and tv yesterday reporting from inside Syria ..

Nature and man – nature is understandable, man is not …

With thoughts to all families – thanks for sharing .. Hilary

Thank you Marja, Penny and Hilary. Yes 185 people is a lot. A moving memorial service was held in Christchurch and a TV doco last night was screened, but it was too hard to watch it all. That’s so sad Hilary about the news journalist and cameraman being killed in Syria. They do such dangerous work, in letting the world know about these events.
